The Peak 2016 Award Winners

It was a beautiful spring night on June 16th when the Colorado marketing community gathered at The Denver Children’s Museum to honor this year’s winners of The 2016 Peak Awards for most innovative brand. The event was sponsored by the Colorado American Marketing Association. All nominees were local to Colorado and represented brands developed by agencies or internal teams at Colorado companies. The nominated brands were all very impressive. Here’s who our panel of judges voted as winners:

Scholar Level

1st Place: From UNC and Professor Denny McCorkle, the Sonic Measure Marketing Plan Project – Produced by James Churchill, Rylie Cook, Ryker Nelson, and Alex Nuttall

This entry is a student team project for a Marketing Problems course at the Monfort College of Business at the University of Northern Colorado. Student teams were assigned to invent a new-to-world consumer product, then develop a marketing plan for it.

Trailhead Level (brands in existence for 1-5 years)

3rd Place: SolaBev – Managed by COHN

SolaBev cups are “Single serve perfected.” They’re recyclable, the coffee is superior due to improved design, and the machines yield more coffee.

2nd Place: EnerPlex

From heavy-duty solar generators (for camping and emergency preparedness) to pocket-sized batteries (for business travel and life on-the-go), EnerPlex offers the widest breadth of Mobility Power solutions.

1st Place: CU Denver Learn with Purpose

CU Denver rebrand and launch toward Denver-area influencers and opinion leaders. Focused on finding ways to connect the city of Denver to the world-class university it never knew it had, using a comprehensive approach involving print, digital, out-of-home, social, online, pre-roll and broadcast advertising.

Basecamp Level (brands in existence for 6-25 years)

3rd Place: Illegal Pete’s

Illegal Pete’s is a fast casual Mission style Mexican restaurant…that is so much more than that. They have a starving artist program that feeds any band that comes through Colorado and now Tucson (they fed over 400 bands last year for free!). Pete runs a record label through the restaurant with 10 bands and 3 comedians. And the restaurants work closely with the music and comedy industries and do their part to be a positive member of the communities we serve.

2nd Place: System76

System76 manufactures powerful Linux computers for scientists, technology and engineering professionals.

1st Place: Health eCareers

The healthcare industry’s career hub for professionals, employers and associations; with a network of more than 2.3 million job seekers, thousands of healthcare employers and more than 100 exclusive association partners.

Summit Level (brands in existence for 26+ years)

3rd Place: Hitachi Data Systems – Managed by Faction

Hitachi is transforming into a complete provider of business and social solutions that helps businesses access and protect their valuable data assets anywhere in the world.

2nd Place: Denver Rescue Mission

The oldest Christian charity in the Rocky Mountain region serving the homeless and poor.

1st Place: Goodwill Industries of Denver

Some believe Goodwill is a national brand that doesn’t do much for the local community; some have the perception that Goodwill solely operates traditional thrift stores across town or is just a place to drop your gently used items. In order to educate Coloradans about its mission, but also find new, affluent supporters to align with its brand, Goodwill has a need to create memorable and effective fundraisers like the En Vogue fashion show.
