Stephen King of the WPP Group famously said, “Brands are built the way birds build nests—by the scraps and twigs they seek out and collect.” Brands, once put out into the world, are no longer the domain of the company who put them there. They’re ours to own. This is important to recognize for marketers: We’re facilitators, not controllers, of brands.
The same is true when building our own personal reputations. Every line on our LinkedIn profile, every tweet we send, every public appearance, every phone call with a potential employer are pieces of our personal brands. Some of these are picked up by the people we need to move of efforts forward, some aren’t. And how you view this—a melee of media or an opportunity to facilitate our reputations—is the foundation to building a winning personal brand.
Join our panel of personal branding experts to learn:
- Why personal branding is no longer an option (spoiler: It’s being done with or without you).
- How to align and integrate brand credibility online and offline.
- How to find and differentiate your unique value.

Lindsay Naughton, Owner of Patterns & Pops
Born and raised in Colorado, Lindsay never dreamed of being an entrepreneur. A graduate of the University of Kansas with a degree in Exercise Science, she took a job at a local photography studio while still trying to figure out what she wanted to be when she “grew up”. At this job she met her now business partner and together they built a brand, opened a mobile and online boutique, and it all started from a love of clothing and Instagram. Lindsay is a self-proclaimed over-committer and is proud to say her greatest life accomplishment (so far) is figuring out how to shop for living, among other things of course! In her spare time, she enjoys exercising, reading, a good glass of wine and shopping – go figure!
Leila Hock, Career Coach, Alignment Coaching
As an attorney, Leila watched her colleagues, clients and friends move through life without clear direction and realized she was falling into the same trap. Leila’s natural curiosity and eye for problem-solving gave her the opportunity to discern what makes people and companies work best in corporate environments. The true secret she observed is alignment. For individuals to be at their best, their tasks and goals must be aligned with their values and who they are. After receiving her coaching certification with iPEC, she founded Alignment Coaching. Leila inspires and encourages her clients to take charge of their corporate journey in a way that supports the life and future they want.
